HBO docu “Boffo! Tinseltown’s Bombs and Blockbusters” and “21 Up in America” have been selected as the respective opening and closing films at the fourth annual Silverdocs.
This year’s edition of the D.C.-area nonfiction fest, a collaboration between the American Film Institute and Discovery Channel, runs June 13-18.
Helmed by Bill Couturie and exec produced by Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart and president-publisher Charlie Koones, “Boffo!” examines the thin line between commercial success and failure in Hollywood. Docu will bow May 19 at Cannes before opening Silverdocs.
The third installment of a series inspired by exec producer Michael Apted’s “Up” documentaries, “21 Up in America” will have its world preem at the fest. Pic is directed by Christopher Dillon Quinn, winner of the jury and audience awards at Sundance for “God Grew Tired of Us.”
