‘All Stars’ get a kick out of Berlin

Pic marks a foray into docu prod'n by Telespan 2000

Chema Rodriguez’s documentary “Estrellas de la linea” (The Railroad All Stars), about a soccer team of Guatemalan sex workers, has been selected for the arthouse Panorama section at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.

Pic turns on a group of prostitutes who live in a Guatemala City slum and turn tricks for $2.

They formed a soccer team in 2004 and joined a local five-a-side league. The league’s organizer expelled them when they revealed their profession to draw media attention to their plight. The ban sparked a national controversy.

Pic marks a foray into docu production by Tomas Cimadevilla’s Telespan 2000, which produces mainstream contempo comedies in Spain such as current B.O. hit “Los 2 lados de la cama,” which has cumed E6.7 million ($8.1 million) in 24 days.
