First Run Features has picked up U.S. distrib rights to Michael Apted’s “49 Up,” the next chapter in the acclaimed British docu series tracing the lives of 14 people, beginning when they were small children and every seven years after that.
Apted has now directed six of the seven installments in the series, produced by the U.K.’s Granada Television. He was a researcher on the original “7 Up.”
First Run will bow “49 Up” on Oct. 6 in a limited theatrical run, followed quickly by a DVD release on Nov. 14. In the latest chapter, more members of the original group take part than ever before, speaking out on a variety of subjects and disclosing life-changing decisions.
“I’ve always been delighted by the response to the films in the U.S. The series has a lot of loyal fans,” Apted said.
First Run is making the entire series — excluding “49 Up” — available in a DVD box set.
Apted’s many directing credits include “Enigma” and “The World Is Not Enough.”
