CJ to carry Paramount pix for South Korea

Company to become exclusive distribitor of films

HOLLYWOOD — Paramount Pictures Intl. confirmed Tuesday that CJ Entertainment will become the exclusive distributor of Par films in South Korea as of Feb. 1.

News follows Monday’s announcement that Universal will shutter the South Korean branch of United Intl. Pictures, its foreign theatrical distrib with Paramount, on Dec. 31 and distribute its own pics there via Universal Pictures Intl. beginning Jan. 1.

CJ Entertainment is Korea’s market-leading distributor of feature films, a founding investor in DreamWorks and the exclusive local distrib of DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation pics.

Part of a media and entertainment conglom, CJE has 10 years’ experience in film distribution, film financing and production.

PPI, the international distribution arm of Paramount studios, cranks up on Jan. 1 and will be responsible for the theatrical release of Par and DreamWorks films in all international territories.
