'Blocks' facing down Oscars

OSCAR OPENERS

‘The Passion of the Christ’ remains an anomaly for pics unspooling during Oscar weekend. Since 1999, when the kudocast began airing on Sundays, the average opening for a wide release has been $9 million (not counting ‘Passion’). WB’s ’16 Blocks’ is trying its luck this weekend.
