‘United 93’ top film for Dallas critics

Scorsese voted top director for 'Departed'

The Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Assn. voted “United 93” as the best film of 2006. Other films on the org’s top 10 list were: “The Departed,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” “The Queen,” “Babel,” “Letters From Iwo Jima,” “Dreamgirls,” “Blood Diamond,” “Little Children,” and “Flags of Our Fathers.”

Martin Scorsese was voted top director for “The Departed.”

Forest Whitaker took the acting nod for “The Last King of Scotland”and Helen Mirren was voted the actress kudos for “The Queen.

Supporting actor went to Jackie Earle Haley for “Little Children” and supporting actress to Cate Blanchett for “Notes on a Scandal.”

Also awarded were “Letters From Iwo Jima” as foreign-language film and “An Inconvenient Truth” in the doc category. “Happy Feet” was named the org’s favorite animated film of 2006.

Michael Amdt landed the screenplay award for “Little Miss Sunshine” and the cinematography honors went to Dean Semler for “Apocalypto.”
