Humanitas nod to ‘Crash’

HBO exec Callender, 'Inconvenient Truth' also feted

Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco took the top feature film Humanitas Prize for their “Crash” screenplay at the 32nd annual kudos on Wednesday.

The Humanitas awards recognize socially redeeming entertainment, with cash prizes ranging from $10,000 to $25,000.

Colin Callender, prexy of HBO Films, delivered the luncheon’s keynote address and received this year’s unpaid Kieser Award, named for the prize’s founder, Father Ellwood Kieser.

Also recognized was “An Inconvenient Truth,” which took the prize’s first unpaid special award for a documentary in more than 10 years.

Richard Curtis drew top honors in the 90-minute TV category for “The Girl in the Cafe.” In the 60-minute category, David Shore won for the “Three Stories” episode of “House.” In the 30-minute category, Greg Garcia won for his “My Name Is Earl” pilot.
