Brothers get ‘Gate’

TWC captures 'Dragon' for Yip pic

The Weinstein Co. has acquired distribution rights to martial arts action-thriller “Dragon Tiger Gate” in all English-speaking territories.

Wilson Yip helmed the bigscreen adaptation of Hong Kong comicbook “The Gate of Dragon and Tiger.”

Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse, Shawn Yue, Dong Jie and Li Xiao-ran star in the pic, which follows three young Chinese martial arts masters who emerge from the back streets of Hong Kong to help the powerless fight injustice.

Raymond Wong and Nansun Shi produced “Tiger.” Yen co-produced and also oversaw the action sequences as martial arts choreographer.

TWC picked up the pic, budgeted at $10 million, from Mandarin Films Distribution. It is slated for a July 28 rollout in Hong Kong.

Weinstein Co. has been on an Asian buying spree of late: Last month the banner bought world rights, excluding Asia and the U.K., to “Ong bak 2,” the sequel to 2003’s Thai boxing hit “Ong bak.”
