Volantis, WWE strike mobile deal

Co. will launch made-for-mobile programming

World Wrestling Entertainment has inked a partnership deal with Volantis to help develop the infrastructure for a new mobile platform.

WWE will be launching a slate of original, made-for-mobile programming later this spring, having begun to offer an SMS subscription package, WWE Mobile Alert. Multi-year pact with Volantis will help create a mobile portal for video and other forms of content from WWE, using Volantis’ software and established network of cell phone companies.

WWE has witnessed rapid growth in its content outside of television, particularly online. The Web site logged 13.6 million hits in February, a 92% increase year-on-year.
