MADRID — Spanish pay TV leader Sogecable has created a mobile TV, cable TV and broadband contents division.
The New Media Contents Unit will be headed up by Jacques Roldan, well-known to international film execs as the former dis-tribution chief at Sogepaq.
The initiative marks a step-up in size and commitment rather than a new beginning: Sogecable already supplies niche chan-nels for cable and broadband Internet plus CNN newsflashes for mobiles.
At the same time, Sogecable is a giant content creator and packager, fashioning nine premium channels for the Sogecable-owned Canal Plus bouquet and supplying programming for new analog broadcaster Cuatro.
“The unit will both reversion Sogecable’s huge arsenal of content and create original products for the new media. That the real challenge. It’s really important to adjust to emerging new consumer patterns,” Roldan told Daily Variety.
Roldan has served as director of film channels at Sogecable’s contents division since 2004.
