ReelTime gets 5-yr. VOD licence

Company to act as operator for Movies Online

The Media Development Authority has issued a five-year video-on-demand license to Australia’s ReelTime Media, acting as operator on behalf of Movies Online, effective Nov 1.

A six-month Internet protocol television (IPTV) trial service licence has also been issued to Singapore-based OBSTV Asia.

They join existing players 1-Net, M2B and MediaCorp in rolling out broadband-delivered content to Singapore’s 600,000 broadband residential connections.

ReelTime plans to offer major studio movie titles, TV skeins, arthouse and foreign films to PCs by Christmas. Australia’s first multi-studio broadband movie and TV service, ReelTime.tv will have fewer data download restrictions in Singapore than in Australia.

OBSTV Asia’s trial will contain a spectrum of TV channels from Korea and Japan via IPTV.

Singapore aims to have more than 90% of homes using broadband by 2015.
