Japan’s Usen inks for Web content

Media giant pacts with talent shop Yoshimoto

TOKYO — Media giant Usen and stock market-listed talent shop Yoshimoto Kogyo, together with Yoshimoto group companies Fandango and R&C, have inked a co-production and Web distribution deal.

Usen will this month launch a channel on its Gyao Webcasting portal offering content from Yoshimoto.

Gyao will have access to 1,500 hours of programming previously beamed on “Yoshimoto Eternity,” a program on the Yoshimoto Fandango TV channel that Fandango operates on communications satellite TV. Gyao can also Webcast up to 1,800 hours of new shows for a total of 3,300 hours.

In addition, Gyao will have access to 60 hours of programming from Monthly Yoshimoto DVD, a series of DVD titles published by R&C.

Finally, Usen and Yoshimoto will make original contents for Webcast on Gyao.

Usen’s Gyao portal offers Webcasts of concerts, TV shows, pics and other streaming content to more than 10 million subscribers.

Yoshimoto Kogyo reps many of Japan’s most popular comic acts.
