BARCELONA — Filmax Entertainment has inked with Virgin Play for international rights to a vidgame based on Filmax’s “Donkey Xote” animated feature.
Both game and pic will be ready for delivery in 2007.
Helmed by Jose Pozo (“El Cid: The Legend”), written by Angel Enrique Pariente (“Gisaku”) and co-produced by Italy’s Lumiq, “Donkey Xote” is freely based on Miguel de Cervantes’ Spanish classic “Don Quixote.”
Multiplatform vidgame production is a departure for Spain’s toon industry. It signals Filmax’s intention, having entered music publishing and legit production, to diversify into further markets.
“Internationalization demands not only films and series but other initiatives such as vidgames, interactive products and R&D,” said Filmax chairman Julio Fernandez.
Game, developed with Revistronic and Pixel Graphics, takes players along the dusty tracks of La Mancha with Sancho and his donkey en route to a jousting tournament in Barcelona.
“The vidgame is conceived for four platforms — PCs, NDS, portable PlayStations and PlayStation 2 — and targeted at a young public,” said Filmax line producer Begona Alonso.
“This is a new business line that we want to strengthen. The game promotes the film and the film promotes the game,” she added.
