MADRID — Madrid-based brand management company Elastic Rights has signed its first Spanish TV deals, for Japanese beetle-adventure toon series “Mushiking, the Guardians of the Forest.”
At Mipcom, Cartoon Network Spain picked up pay TV rights to 52 episodes of the series for transmission in spring, Also, pubcaster RTVE’s youth-oriented niche channel Clan TV inked to broadcast “Mushiking” on DTT next summer.
Elastic Rights is handling “Mushiking’s” Iberian TV and DVD/video rights after reaching a deal with Japanese producer TMS Entertainment. It is also in talks with broadcasters, publishers, vidgames and home entertainment companies to implement an integrated marketing campaign for the property.
Inspired by Sega’s arcade game “Mushiking, the King of Beetles,” TV series is set on a remote planet and narrates the adventures of a boy whose parents are cursed.
Targeting 4- to 12-year-olds, in its heyday “Mushiking” fever led to more than 5 million Asian kids playing the arcade game and more than 360 million cards being sold. According to Elastic Rights, its aim is to replicate in Europe the multiplatform success achieved in Asia.
