Ghost House to bring vidgame to bigscreen

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures has acquired the film rights to Japanese vidgame “Siren” from SCE Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment’s worldwide game development studios for the PlayStation platforms.

Michael Gordon has been hired to write the screenplay. He’ll work closely with “Siren” vidgame director Keiichiro Toyama.

Ghost House’s Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison. Vertigo brought the project to Mandate Pictures prexy of motion pictures Nathan Kahane. Ted Adams of IDW and Rick Privman of JEA will exec produce.

Shooting is expected to begin this year.

“Siren” is a bestselling vidgame in Japan that has already spawned a soon-to-be-released sequel. The film version will focus on an American med school student searching for her missing sister in Japan. She begins her investigation in the remote mountain village of Hanuda, only to find herself trapped with an unspeakable evil that can no longer be contained.

Gordon wrote Warner Bros.’ “300,” based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller. That film is currently shooting; Gerard Butler stars.

Upcoming pics for Ghost House include “The Grudge 2” and David Slade’s “30 Days of Night,” based on the comicbook by Steve Niles, both for Sony.
