Universal Music Group Distribution unit Visual Entertainment has inked a multiyear DVD distrib pact with bilingual multimedia group Voy.
Agreement kicks off with the release of “Voy Baby,” an educational infant DVD series for Latinos and non-Latinos who want their children to learn Spanish. Additional volumes of the series will be released in the coming months.
Vision’s release of docu on Mexican U.S. soccer team Chivas, “Chivas: Si se puede” (Chivas: Yes You Can), will be timed with World Cup events this summer.
Produced by Primetime Group, docu tells the true story of a Mexican soccer franchise’s unlikely success at building L.A.’s Chivas team from scratch. The film was directed by Sergio Guerrero, co-writer of last year’s “A Day Without a Mexican.”
“Our slate will include other direct-to-video films that we plan to acquire and a Latino comedy series,” said Voy Pictures prexy Lourdes Diaz.
Voy has hired former Universal Studios exec Ted Perkins to head the distribution unit.
Visual Entertainment’s studio partners include Bauer Martinez Distribution, Bodywisdom Media, Clanagan Media, First Independent Pictures, Melee Entertainment, New Light Entertainment, Palm Pictures, Rising Entertainment, Trinity Home Entertainment and Xenon Pictures.
