SINGAPORE — Celestial Pictures has reached a long-term distribution agreement with Singapore-based Video On Demand channel Anytime.
Beginning in May, 50 titles from Celestial’s Shaw Brothers library (the world’s largest Chinese film collection) will be available on the Anytime VOD channel over Buddy Broadband in Thailand.
Key titles to be distributed include martial-arts classics such as “The Shadow Boxer,” “Heaven and Hell” and “The Magic Blade.”
Plans are under way to make Celestial’s Shaw Brothers library available through VOD services in other countries across the Asia Pacific region.
The 760-film library includes many blockbusters featuring stars such as Stephen Chow, Jet Li, Gordon Liu, Cheng Pei Pei, Ti Lung, David Chiang and Alexander Fu Sheng.
Anytime delivers VOD over IPTV broadband and digital cable networks. It has output deals with Fox, Sony, Warner and Universal — and licenses with regional content providers. Channel has existing carriage deals in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand and the rights to license into 14 territories in the Asia Pacific region.
Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures focuses on Asian-language film and television content. In 2003, it launched 24-hour Chinese pic channel Celestial Movies, now in 11 territories across the region. Its second TV brand, infotainment channel WaTV is dedicated to the trendy youth lifestyle of the “new China” and launched in February.
