Telco and paybox operator True Corp will next month launch Thailand’s first Internet protocol TV platform.
True Digital Entertainment was given an unannounced soft launch on April 1 and bows officially in Bangkok in May.
Platform kicks off with ten channels, including Star World, music channels V Intl. and Trace, Fox News, Sky News, Fashion TV and its own movie channel, Movieworld, which is sourcing content from local distributors. Disney Playhouse channel starts in June.
The service is modeled on NOW Broadband TV in Hong Kong and uses technology from subsidiary Cascade.
NOW Broadband is the world’s largest IPTV platform, with 550,000 subscribers in Hong Kong. A la carte menu design allows viewers to subscribe to individual channels or to select video-on-demand.
Unlike NOW Broadband, which levies a base subscription price, True Digital Entertainment will be available without charge to all of its 400,000 Bangkok ADSL homes.
Channels will be added every quarter along with pay-per-view and on-demand micro services such as karaoke.
