Weinstein Books picks up Lam’s ‘Bloodletting’

Collection won Canadian literary honor the Giller Prize

Weinstein Books, the tome division of The Weinstein Company, has made its first acquisitions in its new guise, picking up the U.S. rights to Vincent Lam’s story collection “Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures” as well as an untitled novel.

Collection won Canadian lit honor the Giller Prize and has been a bestseller north of the border. It follows the dramas and lives of several med students in school and as practicing doctors. Book will be part of company’s inaugural list next fall.

Weinstein Books was announced in October; unit will publish about fifteen titles annually and will be distribbed through Hachette’s U.S. publishing arm, which includes well-known imprints such as Warner Books and Little, Brown. Longtime publishing vets Rob Weisbach and Judy Hottensen run the imprint.

Under their previous Miramax Books label, brothers oversaw publication of bestsellers by the likes of Queen Noor, Rudolph Giuliani and Artemis Fowl.
