BUENOS AIRES — Telefe, Argentina’s leading broadcaster, has hired Julian Rodriguez Montero as acquisitions manager for films and series.

Rodriguez Montero was previously programming manager at Turner Broadcasting System Latin America’s TCM Classic Hollywood, a feevee carrying classic Hollywood productions and series.

Telefe, the largest in-house producer of its own content, has been increasing its purchases, particularly of Hollywood films, Latin American telenovelas and older seasons of U.S. series like “ER,” “The Simpsons” and “The O.C.”

Telefe and other broadcasters are stepping up foreign acquisitions after focusing on domestic programming to fill slots in the wake of the country’s 2001-02 financial crisis.

Now with ad spending and prices rising as the economy grows robustly, acquisition budgets are on the increase.

Rodriguez Montero replaces Patricia Daujotas, who left in October after more than four years to become acquisitions director at Fox Latin American Channels.
