Bell Globemedia rings changes

BCE reduces its stake in the company

TORONTO — Media giant Bell Globemedia is changing its name to CTVglobemedia Jan. 1 to reflect the fact that Ma Bell is no longer a controlling shareholder.

Former parent company BCE Inc. reduced its stake in the company, which includes network CTV (with its 21 terrestrial and 17 cable channels) and national newspaper the Globe & Mail, from 68.5% to 15% in September.

The other shareholders are the Woodbridge Co., with 40%, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, with 25% and Torstar Corp., which holds 20%.

Bell Globemedia also has a minority stake in the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Team, the Toronto Raptors Basketball Team and the Air Canada Center.
