After production was halted due to Marlon Brando’s death, Ridha Behi’s pic “Brando and Brando” has resumed production and is now titled “Citizen Brando.”
Shooting began this week in Cannes and will continue in the U.K., Tunisia and U.S. over the next six weeks.
Original pic was announced in Cannes two years ago and was to star Brando, who was also to have a collaborative role in the pic’s script and production. Film was to tell the story of a young Tunisian boy who travels to America in search of the American Dream and with the hope of meeting his screen idol, Brando (who was to play himself).
Helmer Behi spent six months working on the pic with Brando in his home. Brando died in 2004.
Behi’s film, which the late thesp helped finance, is a co-production between Tunisia’s Alya Films, Saudi Arabia’s Rotana and France’s Image Resource. Phil Symes and Ronaldo Mourao associate produce.
Pic’s cast includes Christopher Walken, Khaled Abou Naja and Hend Sabri. Behi’s personal doc will be told through hours of recorded conversations with Brando.
