Alan & Cindy Horn

COO, Warner Bros.; activist/mother

Green cred: The first experience with the green life for the Horns came when they were expecting their first child and became seriously concerned about the world their daughter was soon to occupy. That was 18 years ago.

Since then, the Horns, along with other industryites (including Norman Lear), founded the Environmental Media Assn.; have done major work with the Natural Resources Defense Council. At Warner Bros., the COO has helped turn it into the most eco-friendly studio in town — a friendliness that now includes everything from a commitment to making all of their future productions carbon neutral to a newly installed 72-kilowatt solar power project on the studio’s lot.

Focus: Global warming which, for the Horns, encompasses everything from slowing population growth to developing alternative energy sources.

Latest battle: “I’m up to my ears with work at Warner Bros.,” says the studio topper, who also finds time for “Warner’s environmental initiatives, plus I try to help the NRDC whenever I can. And my wife is still very involved with EMA and Heal the Bay.”

Eco mantra: “There’s no place in this equation for selfishness — we are stewards of some extremely limited resources. We need to do everything in our power, in every area of our lives, to preserve those resources so those that come after us can live in a better world.”
