1956: Gable going into prod’n

The King finally decided to go into business. Clark Gable, that is, sez he’s going to activate a film company and is hiring a permanent reader right now … Gable gets 10% of the gross of “King and Four Queens” as he did from “Tall Men”! And Mr. G’s pix cannot be released for TV unless he gives the OK … Raoul Walsh, director of both pix, still owes 20th five more. His formula for yarns which the public will buy: “Give ’em the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.” Walsh says that theory and the price of Bull Durham roll-your-own tobacco are the only things that haven’t changed — “but it’s getting tougher to find Bull Durham.”
