HOLLYWOOD — The Disney Channel and Playhouse Disney Channel will bow in Vietnam this month, Disney execs said Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City.
“This market offers great potential, and Disney’s entry into pay TV in Vietnam is a milestone in the rapid growth and expansion of Walt Disney TV Intl. across the Asia Pacific region,” said Nicky Parkinson, senior VP and managing director of Walt Disney Television Intl. TV Asia Pacific.
Channels will be on the platforms of pay TV operators Ho Chi Minh Cable and Hanoi Cable.
Disney Channel will predominantly air in English with key programming such as “That’s So Raven” and “Phil of the Future” subtitled in Vietnamese. Preschool channel Playhouse Disney Channel will broadcast in English.
There are more than 24 million Vietnamese who are 14 years old and younger.
