HBO KO’s PPV in boxing bout

Event earned second-highest number this year

HBO Sports scored a knockout blow on Saturday.

The network’s coverage of the showdown between Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. in the third fight of their longtime rivalry notched up 405,000 pay-per-view buys — the second-highest number for PPV boxing events this year.

The figure from the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa includes 255,000 buys from cable homes and 150,000 from satellite, representing an increase from the 382,000 buys generated by the second fight in May from Las Vegas.

The first fight in November 2004 registered 304,000 buys.
