Canadian Media Guild union members at pubcaster the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. voted 87% in favor of a strike on Tuesday after more than a year of contract negotiations.

At issue is job security: CBC management wants more workers on short-term contracts rather than full-time jobs. A strike or lockout could take place as early as Aug. 15.

The union reps 5,500 CBC employees including technicians, journalists and administrative staff.
