‘Desperate’ sinks Oscarcast in Oz

Wisteria Lane gang grabbed 2.1 million viewers

SYDNEY — Execs at Oz’s Seven network are jubilant after “Desperate Housewives” trounced Monday night’s delayed Academy Awards telecast Nine.

The Wisteria Lane gang grabbed 2.1 million viewers vs. just 975,000 for the kudocast, despite home girl Cate Blanchett’s win for supporting actress in “The Aviator.”

It was the Oscar ceremony’s lowest ratings since 1994 and the first time in 15 years that the show did not win its time period. Last year it garnered 1.6 million viewers.
