Int’l Emmys adds acting awards

Acad will also recognize format creation, production

CANNES — The Intl. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has created two I-Emmy categories for performance by an actor and performance by an actress.

The Academy also will give a special laurel, not an Emmy, to recognize excellence in format creation and production. The recipient will be named later this year.

The format award will be judged by format specialists and programmers, explained Intl. Academy prexy Bruce Paisner at Mip on Monday.

This year’s Intl. Directorate Award will go to Blighty commercial broadcaster ITV on its 50th anniversary. Charles Allen, ITV topper, will accept the award at the 33rd Intl. Emmy Awards gala Nov. 21, hosted by British comedian Graham Norton for the second year.
