The crowd eyeing Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2005 collection Feb. 5 in New York wasn’t too Crazy in Love for Beyonce Knowles and Jay Z, who were to blame for the show starting an hour and a half late. When the couple finally showed up, catcalls resounded in the venue.
Strangely, no one noticed when Jennifer Lopez slipped into the seat next to Beyonce’s just as the lights went down.
That’s been a primary complaint this season — that designers are more concerned with putting on a “show” than the clothes. And for good reason: The celeb contingent seems to grow and grow, with everyone from Beyonce and crew to Uma Thurman to Drew Barrymore to Li’l Kim vying for runway-side seats this year.
The irony about the Jacobs’ show, though, is that while two seasons ago the designer used “Crazy in Love” to accompany his sexy take on the ’30s, this goth-heavy show unfolded to the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.” Clearly a line more fit for Wednesday Addams than Ms. Bootylicious.
