“Bounce” writer-helmer Don Roos is poised to bounce back into theaters with his first project in five years: “Happy Endings,” which unspooled Tuesday at the Directors Guild of America as part of Variety‘s Gotham Screening Series.
Members of pic’s ensemble cast, including Lisa Kudrow, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom Arnold, Jason Ritter and Jesse Bradford, joined Roos to discuss the pic, which follows the intertwining lives of 10 Angelenos.
Kudrow, who also starred in Roos’ “The Opposite of Sex,” admitted that initially she didn’t fully understand either of his scripts.
“I still maintain that I read both of your scripts, figured I understood about three of the 20 layers and (had to) figure it out as I went along,” Kudrow said.
What Kudrow did comprehend, though, was his depiction of women.
“Don seems to really respect women,” Kudrow said. “Whatever choices they make, he seeks a justification for everything a woman does, which is nice. You feel a great love for the women in a Don Roos script.”
