Clinton, Mirren to present at I-Emmys

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Helen Mirren are among celebs who will present awards at the 33rd Intl. Emmy celebration in New York on Nov 21.

The New York senator will present the Founders Award to Oprah Winfrey, and the British actress will present the Directorate Award to the U.K. ITV commercial network.

Nominations for the various program categories were unveiled Monday in Cannes during Mipcom by the Intl. Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. There are 37 nominees in nine categories.

British talkshow personality Graham Norton will return as host of the gala.

The noms this year span 10 countries, including Russia in the drama series category, for the first time. Noms from Latin America include Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

The I-Academy also announced the nominees for the new categories of perf by actor and actress, which garnered a high number of entries and a good geographic spread including Brazil, China, France, Norway and the U.K.

There were three rounds of judging over six months, with participation from more than 500 judges in 35 countries.

The Academy will present the I-Emmy Founders Award to Winfrey for her international broadcasting career and her philanthropic initiatives.

The I-Emmy Directorate Award will be given to ITV for 50 years of excellence in commercial broadcasting in the U.K. CEO Charles Allen will accept on behalf of ITV.

The I-Academy also announced the nominees for the Intl. Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB) Award co-presented yearly with Unicef. The eight nominees are from Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Uzbekistan. Unicef ambassador Danny Glover will present the award.

Founded in 1969, the I-Academy is the largest organization of global broadcasters, with more than 500 members from nearly 70 countries and over 350 companies.
