Taper turns up the ‘Radio’

Wilson's latest marks the end of a cycle

Who: Helmer Kenny Leon; cast Denise Burse, Rocky Carroll, James A. Williams, John Earl Jelks and Anthony Chisholm; the Center Theater Group’s Gordon Davidson, who, after a 38-year run, will step down as artistic director after this last play in the Taper season; guests Angela Bassett, Beverly Todd, Steve Harris and Lisa Gay Hamilton.

Milestones: Show marks the completion of August Wilson‘s 10-play cycle on African-American life in the 20th century.

Playing favorites: Show’s Carroll lauds Wilson’s Pulitzer-winning “Fences” as his top choice, saying: “It’s lyrical, the characters feel Shakespearean.”
