TV scribe Don Reo (“My Wife and Kids”) has been working overtime this development season, with three projects in the works at ABC and Touchstone.
Reo’s roster includes a laffer he’s exec producing with George Lopez as well as another one he’s working on with Gil Junger (“Hope & Faith”). Reo is also developing a sitcom that would serve as a vehicle for Lenny Clarke (“Rescue Me”).
Touchstone is in talks with Reo and Lopez to pick up their script, a multigenerational, interracial adult laffer about a family of sisters. The real-life Vidal sisters — Lisa (“The Division”), Christina (“Taina,” “Freaky Friday”) and Tanya (“Odd Girl Out”) — are the show’s inspiration, and are expected to star.
Lopez and his wife Ann, who’s also a producer, brought the idea to Reo earlier this year. The idea first came about after Lisa and Tanya Vidal starred opposite George Lopez in last year’s “Wonderful World of Disney” holiday movie “Naughty or Nice” — which Ann Lopez exec produced.
Reo will write and exec produce the project, while George Lopez — whose self-titled Alphabet laffer launches its fifth season tonight — will also exec produce. Both Lopezes are attached through their Encanto shingle.
Meanwhile, Reo has partnered with Junger on an untitled sitcom about four single guys who, having made some money, now have to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives. (Show is being developed under working titles such as “Forever Young” and “Golden Boys”).
Junger, whose credits also include the features “10 Things I Hate About You” and “Black Knight,” is onboard to direct the project. Junger’s other TV helming credits include “8 Simple Rules,” “According to Jim,” “Ellen,” “Dharma and Greg” and “Action” (which Reo exec produced).
Then there’s Clarke, who’s in talks to star as a beat cop in Boston for Reo’s other project. Besides “Rescue Me,” Clarke starred in ABC’s “It’s All Relative” as well as the critically acclaimed laffer “The Job.” He also was a regular in “The John Larroquette Show,” which Reo created, and led the short-lived CBS sitcom “Lenny,” which Reo exec produced.
Besides “Wife & Kids,” “Action” and “Larroquette,” Reo’s other credits include creating “Blossom” and “Pearl.” Reo has also worked on classic sitcoms “Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “MASH.”
