MIAMI — Discovery Networks Latin America has tapped Buenos Aires-based Promofilm to produce local versions of “Wife Swap” and “While You Were Out.”
“Cambiemos esposas” (Wife Swap) and “Mientras no estabas” will air on feevee People & Arts, a joint venture of Discovery Networks and the BBC.
People & Arts has been airing a dubbed version of “While You Were Out,” an original production of sister U.S. net TLC since the second quarter of 2004.
The original British series “Wife Swap,” produced by RDF Media, launched on P&A in dubbed form in third quarter of ’04. This year, People & Arts bowed the U.S. version that aired on ABC.
Discovery is licensing the rights for Promofilm to produce episodes of the two series in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. The original episodes are expected to air before year’s end.
Promofilm is well-versed in reality fare. It has produced “Survivor” (known in Spanish-language markets as “Expedicion Robinson”); “Temptation Island” for both Fox and for Telemundo in the United States, among others; and the race competition series “El conquistador del fin del mundo” (Conqueror of the End of the World).
