‘Price’ still right for Barker

Host reups despite retirement speculation

Bob Barker will come on down for a 34th season as host of CBS gameshow “The Price Is Right.”

Despite speculation that Barker, who turned 81 in December, would retire, he reupped to remain the program’s only daytime host since its inception.

With “Price” and sudsers “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Eye’s daytime ratings have led all other nets for more than 20 years.

“Bob Barker and ‘The Price Is Right’ are cornerstones of CBS daytime,” said Barbara Bloom, senior VP of CBS daytime.

Barker is a recent inductee of the Television Academy Hall of Fame and has won 17 Emmys.

“I was considering retiring this year and going into bodybuilding with the thought in mind of becoming governor of California,” Barker quipped, “but I decided instead to stay with the body I have and the job I have.”
