NEW YORK — The Walt Disney Co. has tapped AT&T Wireless spokesman David Caouette to fill the corporate praisery post recently vacated by John Spelich.

Serving as veepee of corporate communications, Caouette will work on a wide range of issues, including financial reporting, legislative and regulatory matters, corporate reputation and executive communications. He also will work closely with Disney’s various divisions.

Appointment is effective immediately.

Caouette most recently oversaw corporate media and financial communications for AT&T Wireless, where he coordinated media relations during the company’s $41 billion merger with Cingular Wireless, the largest all-cash marriage in U.S. corporate history.

Previously, he was the primary spokesman for AT&T Wireless’ initial public offering and for the closing of AT&T’s $48 billion merger with TCI, as well as AT&T’s $61 billion offer for MediaOne.

Disney senior veepee of corporate communications Zenia Mucha said Caouette’s particular experience with financial issues and the high-tech sector will enhance the conglom’s existing communications efforts.
