Hypnotic has cast a spell on NBC Universal TV Studio.
The shingle, led by helmer Doug Liman and longtime TV exec Dave Bartis, has sealed a two-year, first-look deal with NUTS. Hypnotic’s film operations are already parked at sib Universal, where it holds a nonexclusive deal.
U was a passive investor in Hypnotic until last year, when American Vantage fully acquired the multimedia production and distribution company.
Hypnotic previously held a first-look deal at Warner Bros. TV, where it produced Fox hit “The OC” (along with Wonderland Sound and Vision). Liman also directed “The OC” pilot.
Peacock deal reps a homecoming for Bartis, who headed up NBC Studios in the late ’90s, working on series such as “Homicide,” “Profiler,” “Working” and “Providence.”
In signing Hypnotic, NBC Universal TV Studio prexy Angela Bromstad said she was impressed with Liman’s feature credits, as well as Hypnotic’s role in the creation of “The OC”
“Their tastes and sensibilities are a good fit for the studio and network,” Bromstad said. “Doug has made some of our favorite films — ‘Go,’ ‘Swingers,’ ‘The Bourne Identity’ and ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith.’ ”
Beyond TV and features, Hypnotic also produces branded entertainment, having worked with Reebok and the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festivals, among other clients.
