MIAMI — MTV Networks Intl. has upped Pierluigi Gazzolo to managing director for MTV Networks Latin America, filling a job that had been vacant since Antoinette Zel joined Telemundo as exec VP of cable networks and strategic planning five months ago.
Based in MTV regional headquarters in Miami, Gazzolo reports to MTV Networks Intl. prexy Bill Roedy in London. Gazzolo is responsible for leading business and creative development across all the MTV Networks’ brands and channels.
In Latin America, MTV Networks owns and operates the Spanish-lingo feevees MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1, as well as Portuguese-lingo Nickelodeon Brazil and the MTV Networks Digital Suite.
Gazzolo joined MTV Latin America in 1994 as the regional director of distribution, working on the launch of the MTV and Nickelodeon channels in the region.
Until this promotion, Gazzolo was senior VP for distribution, but was also part of the management team that ran the channels after Zel left.
