Legends of soul belted out a bevy of tunes with some recent R&B chart-toppers on Friday during a tsunami benefit at L.A.’s Avalon.
Event was coordinated and emceedby will.i.amof the Black Eyed Peas to launch his new label, the will.i.am music group. Label’s first offering will be a recording of the concert, with the proceeds going to tsunami relief.
“It’s about the music,” will.i.am said. “You can send a tank for destruction, or you can tour for reconstruction.”
One highlight of the evening was a jam session between Carlos Santana and Herbie Hancock.
Artists sharing the stage included India.Arie, “American Idol’s” Randy Jackson, Nikka Costa, John Legend, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Pink.
A rumor that Prince was in the house and would take the stage turned out to be all talk.
