NEW YORK — Sony Pictures Classics’ “Junebug” preem Monday was an SRO affair, with guests lining the back of the theater to watch frosh feature helmer Phil Morrison‘s Southern indie unspool.
“We’ve showed this movie in places all around, but this is the first time everyone’s wearing such sweet clothing,” Morrison told the crowd.
One such place was Park City, Utah, earlier this year, where pic was in competition and thesp Amy Adams took home a Special Jury Prize.
Classic’s co-topper Michael Barker believes the film is “the perfect movie for the end of the summer. There have been many pictures we opened in the beginning of August —- going back to ‘In the Company of Men’ — and it’s a really great time because people are in the moviegoing habit in the summer and they’re ready for something different.”
