Fox is giving a thumbs up to helmer Bryan Singer’s “House,” ordering five additional episodes of the frosh medical drama.

While far from a breakout hit, “House” was one of the bright spots on Fox’s fall sked. Skein, which stars Hugh Laurie as an abrasive medical genius, has garnered strong critical notices and has been a steady ratings reporter.

Over seven airings, “House” has averaged a 2.7/7 among adults 18-49 and 4.7 million viewers since bowing in November. Real story, however, is that “House,” on average, improves upon its lead-in, 8 p.m. reality skein “The Rebel Billionaire,” by 59% in adults 18-49.

“House” hit a ratings high on Dec. 21, averaging a 2.9/8 in the demo and improving on its “Billionaire” lead-in by an astounding 142%. Fox execs no doubt hope “House” will get another boost later this month when its lead-in becomes “American Idol.”

Singer, David Shore, Paul Attanasio and Katie Jacobs are exec producers of “House.”
