BERLIN — Jan Mojto’s production-distrib outfit EOS Entertainment and Italian producer Lux Vide are teaming up for a fresh TV adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace.”
EOS is looking for Euro broadcasting partners for the multimillion-dollar production, which is skedded to start shooting next year for a 2007 bow. Cast and crew have yet to be finalized for the latest retelling of the classic novel, which examines the impact of the Napoleonic Wars on a number of Russian families.
It’s the latest historical epic for EOS, which specializes in co-producing event movies and series for the international market. It recently partnered with HBO and BBC on “Rome,” and with fellow Teutonic company Teamworx on the upcoming World War II drama “Dresden.”
EOS and Lux Vide have worked together on a number of high-profile historical minis including “Imperium: Augustus,” with Peter O’Toole, and “Pope John XXIII,” which starred Ed Asner as the late pontiff.
Mojto’s relationship with Lux Vide dates back to his days as programming exec at the now-defunct Kirch Media, which joined Lux Vide in co-producing “The Bible” series as well as TV pics like 2002’s “Dracula,” starring Patrick Bergin as a modern-day count.
