ABC has added three more dramas to its pilot mix, including an alien-themed project from producer Shaun Cassidy and another hour from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Prods.
Dubbed “Invasion,” Cassidy’s Warner Bros. TV-produced hour looks at what happens in a small Florida town after a hurricane. Details are being kept under wraps, but, per the show’s title, an alien invasion could be involved.
Cassidy (“The District”) wrote the pilot and will exec produce. Scribe has a history of producing spooky skeins, starting with his 1995 cult fave “American Gothic.”
Alphabet on Tuesday also greenlit production of Roundtable Entertainment’s Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo’s “Laws of Chance,” an hourlong legal drama from scribe-exec producer Gary Glasberg. Pilot is about the adventures of a tough, real-life female DA (Daily Variety, Oct. 13).
ABC also gave thumbs-up to Touchstone TV’s Abrams-produced “Pros and Cons,” which revolves around five ex-cons who end up working with the government.
Raven Metzner and Stu Zicherman (“Rush Hour 2”) wrote the pilot and will exec produce with Abrams, along with Bad Robot’s Thom Sherman and Bryan Burk. Project is one of two Metzner/Zicherman/Bad Robot scripts in contention for development this season; other’s at the WB (Daily Variety, Sept. 21).
Last week, ABC greenlit the Bad Robot/Dana Stevens drama pilot “What About Brian?” (Daily Variety, Jan. 7 ). Alphabet has picked up seven drama pilots; it’s expected to pick up a total of nine or 10 this season.
