Cube melts hearts at bash

Former rapper takes on family filmmaking

Another day of downpours didn’t dampen spirits at Revolution and Columbia’s Sunday-ayem preem of Ice Cube laffer “Are We There Yet” and the afterparty at the Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport. Kids mingled with the cast, including stars Cube, Nia Long, Aleisha Allen, Phillip Bolden and Nichelle Nichols.

Ice Cube told Daily Variety that he was glad to make a movie that his kids, who range in age from 4 to 18, can watch with him. “I’ve seen all the kids movies that ever were,” he said. “I wanted to make one that adults could enjoy, too.”

Helmer Brian Levant was quick to thank his star, better known for playing tough guys in movies like “Boyz N the Hood,” for taking on a family comedy.

Revolution partner Tom Sherak, meanwhile, marveled at the number of people Ice Cube attracts. “It’s like travelling with Elvis Presley. People know him from his music, from his movies. He gets all ages, from 6 to 60.”
