HOLLYWOOD — As an SRO crowd packed into Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome Tuesday for the L.A. preem of “Kung Fu Hustle,” helmer and star Stephen Chow made a quick pitstop before moving on to a much-needed Chinese food fix.
Living up to his name, Chow — who disclosed that he “can’t go without rice for too long”– is a foodie of sorts. In his U.S. travels over the past few weeks, he’s found American Chinese cuisine rather “untraditional.”
The chopsocky master also has been on a “Sideways” kick. He’s put aside his preference for red wine and taken to California whites. “I want to find out what it means when people say a wine is dry,” he explained.
Chow is also a connoisseur of steaks, as he demonstrated at Sony Pictures Classics’ post-screening dinner at the Palm.
Joining him were helmer Taylor Hackford, who toasted Chow’s “wit and style”; Helen Mirren; and Sony brass including Gareth Wiggan, Tom Bernard and Barbara Robinson, who heads up Asian production for the studio.
