BV gets ‘Danza’ bonanza

Skein cleared for 115 markets covering 80% of U.S.

NEW YORK — Buena Vista TV has formally renewed “The Tony Danza Show” for a second season.

The syndicated talkshow, which goes out live, landed the renewal at least in part because, according to Buena Vista’s researchers, it harvested more women 18-49 and 25-54 than any other rookie firstrun five-a-weeker in the November Nielsens.

Buena Vista has cleared the series for the 2005-06 season in 115 markets covering more than 80% of the U.S. One of the show’s biggest deals came 10 days ago when the Viacom-owned Los Angeles stations KCBS and KCAL agreed to carry Danza in daytime beginning in the fall.

In its current L.A. contract, Buena Vista corporate sibling KABC can run the show only in latenight time periods, where it suffers in the ratings.
