Alphabet has Star quality

'Sex' creator inks pilot deal with ABC

ABC is hopping into bed with “Sex and the City” creator Darren Star, inking a rich two-for-one pilot commitment with the Sony-based producer.

Alphabet will develop two projects with Star’s shingle, committing to greenlight at least one project to pilot early next year. Company’s already set up one potential skein under the deal, a half-hour single camera laffer from scribe Darlene Hunt (“Good Morning, Miami”).

Pact with ABC follows a similar two-for-one agreement Star set up at UPN earlier this year. In his first year at Sony, Star and recently tapped production topper Susie Fitzgerald have also set up comedy and drama projects at multiple networks.

Hunt project, tentatively dubbed “The Model,” will be a sort of “That Girl” set in the Gotham modeling universe. Star is partnering on the show with Full Picture’s Desiree Gruber and Jane Cha, who exec produce the Bravo reality hit “Project Runway.”

Star, who’s repped by WMA, said he’s still working on the second project under the ABC deal.

So far this season, Star and Fitzgerald have set up at least eight projects at various outlets, including Fox, UPN, the WB and the BBC. Star-produced “Kitchen Confidential,” from 20th Century Fox TV, has been canceled by Fox, but there’s been buzz that other nets may be interested in reviving the critically hailed laffer.
