December 6, 1956:
It’s not a GOOD MORNING for Spencer Tracy and Metro. He pulled out of “Tribute to a Bad Man” and winged in from the Colorado location over the weekend. The reason: Tracy’s health, sez Metro. Culver City confabs today will find a new leading man and decide Tracy’s status — this was to be his last Metro film … On the Marfa, Texas, location of “Giant,” James Dean discovered a new sport, night-hunting jack rabbits from an auto running board … Red Skelton, who switched from a Yosemite to Hawaii vacation, planning to extend the trip westward and, if he can obtain clearances, will play GI bases around the world … Over at WB, I noted Jane Wyman working in “Miracle in the Rain” on a stage next to Liberace’s’ “Sincerely Yours.” He’s moved from TV to films and Wyman’s starting her own telefilming right after “Rain.” “Smiley” (Liberace) winged up to the Riviera in Vegas over the weekend to see his old bosses … And Mary and Jack Benny, with George and Gracie Burns at the Flamingo … Connie Towers works again with Jack Carson at the State Line in Tahoe, but will then “single” at the New Frontier … Pier Angeli and Marisa Pavan celebrated their birthday yesterday with a family dinner at the Bel-Air — Arthur Loew Jr., Marisa’s date.
