The Parents Television Council, hoping to wash ABC’s mouth out with soap, has filed an indecency complaint with the FCC. Org said the network failed to bleep an f-word during the network’s July 2 primetime broadcast of highlights from the Live 8 concert.
Complaint, PTC’s first since February, involves a perf by the Who of song “Who Are You?” Chorus, which includes the line, “Who the fuck are you?,” slipped past network screeners even though broadcast was on tape delay.
The delay “should have given ABC ample time to edit all obscenities from the concert prior to broadcast,” said PTC exec director Tim Winter in a statement. “ABC took steps to edit other profanity from the broadcast. But given the time of day that this program aired, the broad family appeal of the Live 8 event, as well as the program’s PG rating, ABC should have been more diligent.”
Alphabet acknowledged it missed the offending lyric during the East Coast feed, but caught it later for the West Coast.
